Video Game Data Report #3: March 2021

Welcome to the first quarter of the year. 2021 has been a positive year for the gaming industry and it can be difficult to keep track of which games are coming out and when. Whatoplay's Data Team brings you the regularly updated list of new and upcoming games all throughout the year.

New Game Releases

Let's start with the new releases. For January, we tracked a total of 984 games on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch,  Android, iOS, and Google Stadia.

This month, the PC has the highest number of releases. This is followed by Switch,  with Android and iOs coming 3rd and fourth, respectively. The PS4 and Xbox one come next. While last are the PS5, Series X, and Stadia.

Games Added to the whatoplay Database

The data team is also entrusted with making sure that our growing database of video games is up-to-date. Over the years, adding games as we discover them has been our daily routine.  For March, we added 1422 new and upcoming games across different platforms.

The chart above shows the platform distribution of all newly-added games. It shows that mobile titles (android, ios) stand out among other platforms. One of the major factors is the growing number of publishers and developers entering the mobile gaming industry. They’re making new mobile game titles or making established PC and consoles franchises available for mobile devices.

Overall our growing database currently has a total of 86,513 games (released and upcoming), and 192,107 critic reviews.

Looking forward, you can expect that whatoplay's Data Team will continue to work on building the internet's biggest database of video games.
